Obituary for Kenneth Leroy Scantlin

Kenneth (Kenny) L Scantlin, 82, passed away at Holiday Island, Arkansas on Monday, January 2, 2020 of Alzheimer’s. He was born June 10, 1937 in Gravette, Arkansas to Leo and Emily (Cox) Scantlin.

Kenny is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Jonna Goodnight Scantlin; sons Rob (Diana) Scantlin of North Carolina and Rick (Rhonda) Scantlin of Missouri; daughters Deanne (Rich) Kaduce of Missouri, Trudi (Peter) Matthews of Kentucky, Wendie Bennett of Tennessee and Kim (Brian) Hull of Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and nephews Kelly (Bev) Goforth and Timothy (Donita) Goforth.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Emily Scantlin; seven sisters Leota, Leona, Viola, Deana, Marie, Opal and AnnaLee; three brothers Jim, Gene and Bill; and nephew David Goforth.

Kenny was a Navy Veteran having served in San Diego during the mid-50’s. He was an ironworker building roads and bridges in Kansas and Missouri for 35 years. After retirement, he spent the next seven years driving a school bus and enjoyed every moment spent with the children. He coached boys’ and girls’ sports for many years. He was a lifelong Arkansas Razorbacks fan.

Kenny and Jonna moved to Holiday Island, Arkansas from Shawnee, Kansas in May 2001. He enjoyed golfing and telling stories to all who listened and always liked a good conversation. Kenny loved his wife, family and friends very much!

Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday, January 6, 2020 at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs, Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online at or by mail 225 N Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Circle of Life, 1201 NE Legacy Parkway, Bentonville, AR 72712.
