Our staff includes funeral directors licensed in both Arkansas and Missouri to accommodate your family in either location.

Bobby R. Thurman   Bobby R. Thurman

On May 1, 1997, Bobby R. Thurman, Rea L. Nelson’s great-grandson, joined the family business as fourth generation. Bobby is a licensed funeral director and embalmer receiving all his licensure in 1999 after graduating from ASU in Mtn. Home, AR. He is also a licensed funeral director in Missouri. He has been a deputy coroner since January of 1998. On December 1, 2005, he bought the business from his uncle, Douglas B. Nelson. In 2010, he became a member of the Advisory Board for Mortuary Science at Arkansas State University in Mountain Home. He has served in all the chairs of the North West Arkansas Funeral Directors Association, the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association and in July 2011, he was appointed by Gov. Beebe to the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. In June 2012, he was nominated to the position of Vice-Chairman of the State Board. Locally, he is in Kiwanis, a board member of the Carroll County Historical & Genealogical Society, Eureka Springs Historical Museum, the Mercy Hospital-Berryville Foundation Board, a recruiter for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks and a member of the Berryville Lodge #82 Independent Order of Odd Fellows in which he is the Past Grand Master for the state. In March 1998, he married Christy Ellison and they have two daughters, Olivia and Ava. In his spare time, he plays the drums and he likes to be outdoors camping, hunting, fishing and skiing.

David Sparks   David Sparks
Funeral Director

David began working for the Nelson family in 1981. In the beginning he was hired by Rea Nelson as a farm hand.  Not long after, Charles had him helping with funeral services. In 1983 David received his Arkansas Funeral Directors License and in 1997 he received his Missouri Funeral Directors License. He is also a prearrangement counselor. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge and the I.O.O.F. David grew up in Jasper, AR and later moved to Berryville, AR and married Linda Curtis who passed away March 2013. Together they have two children, Jennifer & Kenny, and he has one granddaughter, Abby.

Arvil J. Capps   Jim Capps
Mortuary Care Manager

In 1998, Jim joined Nelson Funeral Service. He graduated from N.W. Community College in South Haven, Mississippi, earning his degree Mortuary Science and became a funeral director & embalmer. In 1989, Jim became an ordained Baptist Minister. Jim is the Carroll County Coroner elected for the term 2013-2014. He is an active member of the Lions Club and a member of the I.O.O.F. Jim lives in Berryville with his wife, Louise. They have three sons, Justin, Jimmy, & Josh Capps; along with nine grandchildren. In his spare time, Jim enjoys camping and playing golf and being with his family.

Tina Ward   Tina Ward
Preneed Counselor

Tina was born and raised in Central Arkansas, but has lived in Berryville for more than 13 years.  Berryville is now the place she calls home. She is married to Carl, and they have two daughters, Carley and Taylor. Tina and her family love the beautiful Ozarks and anything outdoors, especially camping.

Tina enjoys helping people with the pre-planning process. She has seen the difference it can make at the time of need. Families are more at ease and have the peace of mind that their family's wishes are being met. She has been a Pre-arrangement Counselor with Nelson Funeral Service since 2008.

Randy High   Randy High
Funeral Assistant

Randy began working for Nelson Funeral Service in 2006 as a preneed counselor. He is a 1976 graduate of Green Forest High School. He resides in Green Forest and works part time for the Carroll County Historical Society. Randy is a member and the music director at the Victory Tabernacle in Green Forest, AR.

Carla Thurman   Carla Thurman
Chapel Attendant/Funeral Director

She attends the Nelson’s Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs, AR. Carla is the daughter of Charles and Jimmie Nelson. She and husband Bobby reside in Eureka Springs, AR. She has two children, Bobby R. Thurman & Angela Durham. She has six grandchildren. Carla and Bobby also own the Candlewick Inn motel in Eureka Springs, AR.

Eunice Smith   Eunice Smith
Chapel & Visitation Assistant/Funeral Assistant

Eunice is the Chapel attendant at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Eunice has worked for Nelson Funeral Service since 2000. She was born and raised in Berryville, AR. She is a mother of six children. She has many grandchildren & great grandchildren. Eunice is a volunteer at the Mercy Hospital-Berryville Auxiliary. She attends the Church of God in Berryville. She spends many hours volunteering her time to help others. Also, Eunice is one of the best Peach Cobbler makers around.

Grace Marshall   Grace Marshall
Chapel & Visitation Assistant/Funeral Assistant

Grace is the Chapel attendant at the Nelson’s Green Forest Chapel in Green Forest. She has worked for Nelson Funeral Service since 1983. Grace is a resident of Green Forest, AR. Grace retired from Tyson Foods in 2013 after working there for 43 years.  She has one daughter, Misti.

Dianna Raye Sturtz   Dianna Raye Sturtz
Office & Funeral Assistant

Dianna Raye, assists in the day to day operations in the office during busy times. She is also a Funeral Assistant. Dianna Raye retired from Green Forest High School 2006 as the High School Counselor, where she served the school for many years. In 1967, she graduated from Green Forest High School then going on to college to get her degree in Counseling. She began working for Nelson Funeral Service in 2009. She is a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, Carroll County Retired Teachers Association and serves on the Pickens Cemetery Board. In 1980, she received the Professional Counselors License. Also, in 1983, she received her Arkansas State Insurance License. She currently resides in Green Forest with her two Great Pyrenees dogs, Shyanne & Howllaster that are her pride and joy.
